Skin Fades in Stamford: What to Ask For
A clean fade is the difference between a fresh cut and a forgettable one. Here's how to walk into the chair and get exactly what you want.

A skin fade is a blend that tapers down to the skin at the bottom, then builds back up to whatever length you keep on top. Done right, it stays sharp for two solid weeks. Done wrong, you're back in the chair by Friday. The difference is mostly in how you ask for it.
Know the numbers
Barbers talk in guard sizes. A #1 leaves about an eighth of an inch, a #2 a quarter inch, and so on. When you say 'skin fade,' you're asking for the bottom to go to the skin, blended up into the length above it. Tell Ron or Sergio how high you want the fade to reach — low, mid, or high — and the rest falls into place.
Bring a photo
Words like 'tight' and 'blended' mean different things to different people. A photo skips the translation. It doesn't have to be a celebrity cut — a screenshot of a fade you liked on yourself three months ago works just as well.
- Low fade: the blend stays below the temple. Subtle, easy to grow out.
- Mid fade: the blend hits around the temple. The all-rounder.
- High fade: the blend climbs above the temple. Sharp, a bit more dramatic.
How long it holds
A skin fade looks best in the first week and a half. After that, the line at the bottom softens and the blend grows out. Most guys on Pacific St come back every two to three weeks to keep it tight. If you're stretching to a month, ask for a slightly higher fade so the grow-out reads intentional.
